date night!

Tony had his corporate holiday (after the holiday) party last weekend.  It was nice to get all dressed up and go out together.

The event was at Windows on the River downtown.  It was very nice.

Even nicer, Tony won an award from his company which was a nice accomplishment and good recognition for him.  He also got a recent promotion and is now a Processing Manager.  I'm very proud of him!

House update

It's been a few weeks since the last update, and much has happened since then!  The brick work was completed.  All of the plumbing, HVAC and electric were done and inspected.  The house was insulated.  We had our pre-drywall walk through last Friday.  Everything looks great.  We only have one issue to resolve which is how the wood floors will flow from the foyer into the great room and kitchen.  I don't want there to be a break from wood floor to carpet, but there doesn't seem to be a real good logical way to start the carpet without separating the wood floors.  We'll figure it out though.

This week, drywall was hung.  It's weird that the rooms actually start looking bigger when the walls go up!  I stopped over Friday as the drywall crew was there.  I'm not sure of the flow to their work as some rooms had ceilings, some  had tops of walls and others had bottoms of walls.  But what I did see that was done, looked great.

So next week, they'll do the drywall taping and mudding which will take all week.  The siding will also proably get done so the outside will be near complete.  We should also get a close date by the end of next week.  It'll probably be done early to mid-April, so again, we're still super hopeful to get an offer on our house soon so we can move when the house is done instead of waiting until after May 1st.

On that note, we're up to 24 showings on the house - still lots of traffic and good feedback.  We do have a second showing tomorrow......keep your fingers crossed it turns into an offer!!

Hannah's 7-year old pictures

Here are Hannah's 7 year old pictures.  They'll probably be the last ones we have taken of her with baby teeth as she's got 4 wiggly ones now, including the two in front.

She's still adorable!

And then we got this one in black & white.  I plan to hang this in the new house either in our bedroom or in the foyer.  I had a similar one taken of Nicholas.  They will look great hanging on the wall.

Bye-Bye Binky

Yes, Nicholas still has a binky.  At this point, he is only allowed to have it in his room, which means he has it at nap (at home) and at night and when he needs some chill out time to himself.

He has lost one at a time over the last year or so by either biting holes in them or throwing them away because he's bad.  We were down to two, but Grandma sent one home from her house, so we had three.

Last Friday morning was the tantrum of all trantrums (so far).  I opened Nick's door up to wake him around 6:50.  He immediately screamed at me to get out out of his room.  I left him alone for a few minutes, and he shut his door.  I opened it back up and he continued to scream at me to get out and shut off the hall light.  I told him it was time to get up and nicely asked him to stop screaming.  I'm not joking when I say this kid can be REALLY mean.....he was screaming at the top of his lungs like a nut-case.  I just kept getting ready in the bathroom and reminded him that he needed to get up for breakfast.  He kept screaming.  Finally, I went in and ripped his binky string off his PJ's and demanded he stop screaming and get up.  That only made him more mad.  He continued screaming the entire morning.  I just finished getting ready and got him dressed (while still screaming), got his coat and boots on and strapped him into his car seat.  He finally stopped screaming so that he could eat a granola bar since he missed breakfast at home.  He complained about being hot and I reminded him that maybe he shouldn't have screamed for 45 minutes.

We talked on the way  to daycare about what was wrong.  He told me that he wanted his binky and I reminded him that he was being "Nasty Nick" (vs. the Nice Nick that we prefer) and because of that, I threw his binky's away.  I actually really hadn't but I had to tell him I did because that's about the only thing that gets to him for him to get it.

So anyway, Friday night, we had friends over and he stayed up late.  When he hit the wall, I went up to put him to bed and he asked for his binky.  I had to remind him that we threw them away so he didn't have them anymore,  That put him into a fit, which I let him cry out for a while.  Then I went back into his room to rock him for a bit and he calmed down and then went to bed pretty much with no problem.  He woke through the night twice, but soothed himself back to sleep pretty easily.

He never mentioned it all day Saturday.  When I rocked him to sleep last night, he said, "mommy, I'm not going to cry because I don't have a binky".  I was so proud of him.  He really hasn't asked about it much this weekend and I think now he knows they're gone forever and I think he's OK with it.

So with that, farewell binky's...........we're ready for a big boy three year old!

House progress

Well, despite the weather this week, there was some more good progress on the house.  Since the last post when the roof was finished, they were able to get the house warmed enough to pour the garage and basement floors and the porch.

There isn't much new to show other than the plastic cover over the porch.

Nate's call on Friday was just to fill me in on the concrete pours.  Next week the trades will start coming in to do the HVAC and plumbing and probably the electrician too.  I asked about brick and siding and he said the brick is due to be delivered next week, but they probably won't start putting it up for a couple weeks.  Unfortunately, the pictures of progress may be a bit lacking in the excitement category for a while, but things are ticking along!

Good news on our house, kinda....we had a second showing this week.  We haven't heard back yet from our agent if it's really good news, but it was encouraging to get the second showing.  We had one showing today and we have one scheduled for tomorrow.  11 total showings in the 3 weeks we've been listed with this agent, so I can't complain.  Only thing better would be an offer!  Keep positive thoughts coming our way!
